Taishan University began to offer higher education in 1958, and its history can be traced back to the Tai'an Prefecture Government Normal School founded in 1905. In 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of undergraduate education, and in 2012 it changed to a management system of "co-construction by the province and the city, with the province as the main body". The school is one of the 19 provincial-level teacher education bases in Shandong Province, and one of the first nine universities in Shandong Province with the qualification to recruit public-funded normal students. In 2012, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, and was approved as a master's degree granting project construction unit in 2017. In 2019, it passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2021, it was selected as the first batch of supporting units for the construction of applied undergraduate universities in Shandong Province, and in 2022, it was approved as a master's degree granting unit for precise cultivation in Shandong Province. The school currently has two campuses, south and north, covering an area of 1,378 acres and a building area of 540,000 square meters. There are 19 secondary colleges and 54 undergraduate majors (51 majors are recruiting and 54 majors are currently enrolled). Among them, there are 4 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 12 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, and 6 majors have passed the second-level certification of normal undergraduate majors, covering 9 major disciplines such as literature, science, engineering, history, education, and management. Enrollment is open to 27 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) across the country, with more than 18,000 full-time ordinary students. There are more than 1,500 faculty and staff, including more than 1,100 full-time teachers and more than 450 teachers with senior professional titles. There are 33 high-level talents such as national leading talents, teaching masters, national model teachers, experts with special government allowances from the State Council, Taishan scholars, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the province, and provincial teaching masters, 10 provincial youth innovation teams, 1 provincial social science association social science youth talent team, and 3 provincial college Huang Danian-style teacher teams. The school has always been committed to the construction of a high-level applied university. There are 2 provincial key disciplines and 2 provincial key disciplines in culture and art; there are 1 provincial key research base for social science theory, 1 mountain tourism research base of China Tourism Research Institute, 1 provincial academician workstation, 2 provincial key laboratories of higher education institutions, 1 provincial humanities and social science base of higher education institutions, 2 provincial characteristic laboratories of higher education institutions, 1 provincial liberal arts laboratory of higher education institutions, 1 provincial engineering research center of higher education institutions, 1 provincial collaborative innovation center for higher education institutions to connect with industries, 1 provincial collaborative innovation center for higher education institutions to serve the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, 1 provincial base for the transformation and transfer of scientific and technological achievements of higher education institutions, 1 provincial demonstration internship (training) base for ordinary higher education institutions, and 1 provincial demonstration grassroots teaching organization. Since 2002, it has successively obtained 81 national projects, including 58 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 419 provincial and ministerial projects; 21 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievements have won awards, and 880 municipal and departmental scientific research achievements have won awards. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has undertaken 44 national scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. Teachers and students have won more than 750 national awards and more than 2,000 provincial awards in the "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition and other competitions. Actively promote school-enterprise cooperation, with 23 cooperative majors (directions). Focusing on regional industrial needs, adhering to the concept of "T"-shaped industrial college construction, building 9 industrial colleges closely integrated with leading enterprises, with the participation of governments, industries and other enterprises, and the Artificial Intelligence Industry College and Taishan Smart Cultural Tourism Industry College have been approved as provincial modern industrial colleges. The school has always adhered to teaching as the center and actively participated in major projects for the transformation of new and old kinetic energy in provinces and cities. There is currently one comprehensive reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, one national college English teaching reform demonstration project, one Shandong talent training simulation innovation experimental zone, three provincial excellent engineer education and training plan projects, and four provincial high-level application-oriented project construction majors (groups). There are 39 provincial-level boutique courses, 25 provincial-level first-class courses, 3 provincial ideological and political "gold courses", 2 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, and 98 courses approved as provincial alliance online courses. Formulate and implement the Tai'an Service Action Plan, vigorously carry out applied research and industry-university-research cooperation, form obvious advantages in regional tourism planning, tourism management talent training, basic education teacher training, primary and secondary school internship teaching, small and medium-sized enterprise management personnel training, environmental monitoring and analysis, etc., and make positive contributions to regional economic and social development. The school has always attached importance to establishing an international school-running concept. It has established cooperative relations or cooperation intentions with more than 20 universities in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Spain, Belarus, and the United States. It began to recruit foreign students in 1995. In 2000, it was named the first batch of Chinese language education bases in the country by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. In 2014, it began to hold Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. Inter-school cooperation represented by the "3+1" project has opened up overseas channels for students to continue their studies. In 2022, the first Sino-foreign cooperative education undergraduate project was approved.
