Dalian University for Nationalities is located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian. It is affiliated to the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and is one of the more than 110 central government-affiliated universities in the country. It is the only national university located in the northeast and coastal open areas, with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school takes the strengthening of the sense of community of the Chinese nation as the main line and the construction goal is to become a high-level modern comprehensive university. The school currently has two campuses in the Development Zone and Jinshitan, covering an area of 1,717 acres. The school was approved for construction in 1984 and enrolled students in 1993. It is a university jointly built by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Liaoning Provincial Government, and the Dalian Municipal Government. The school's 9 majors, including bioengineering, industrial design, product design, network engineering, electronic information engineering, applied chemistry, environmental engineering, information and computing science, and accounting, have been approved as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. The school's 10 courses have been approved as national first-class undergraduate courses, 2 courses have been selected as the Ministry of Education's ideological and political demonstration courses, and 161 courses have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate courses. Approved to establish 5 provincial modern industrial colleges. The school has two first-level master's degree programs in bioengineering and ethnology, and six master's degree authorization programs in electronic information, international business, materials and chemical engineering, biology and medicine, forestry, and art. It has 12 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 10 provincial and ministerial key laboratories such as the Key Laboratory of Biotechnology and Resource Utilization of the Ministry of Education, 7 provincial and ministerial engineering (technology) research centers, and 18 provincial and ministerial key humanities and social science research bases and think tanks. It has two of the second batch of virtual teaching and research office construction pilot projects of the Ministry of Education, 14 provincial and ministerial practical education bases, 9 provincial and ministerial undergraduate experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 provincial and ministerial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. It has been approved to establish the National Innovation Alliance of Xanthoceras sorbifolia Industry. It has won 2 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 second prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award, 1 third prize of the National Education Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award, and 1 third prize of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award. The school has won 1 first prize in Liaoning Natural Science Award, 1 person in Liaoning Philosophy and Social Science Award and Achievement Award, 14 first prizes and 30 second prizes in Liaoning Teaching Achievement Award. In 2006, the school was rated as one of the first batch of national college English teaching reform demonstration schools. In 2007, it was rated as excellent in the teaching work level evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, it was approved as a national pilot school for education system reform. The school's undergraduate innovative education, bilingual teaching, and internationalized curriculum teaching have been widely recognized by the society. Since its establishment, the school has trained nearly 70,000 graduates, and the employment rate has remained above 90% for 24 consecutive years. The school has 21 teaching and research units, including the School of Economics and Management, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Design, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Science, the School of Preparatory Education, the School of International Business, the School of Information and Communication Engineering, the School of Environment and Resources, the School of Physics and Materials Engineering, the School of Architecture, the Institute of Chinese Community, the School of Chinese Community, the School of Marxism, the School of International Cultural Exchange, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, and the Department of Physical Education Research. There are 58 undergraduate majors covering eight disciplines: engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, art, and agriculture. The school recruits students from 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and students from 56 ethnic groups gather on campus. The school currently has more than 1,300 faculty and staff, nearly 70% of full-time teachers have doctoral degrees, and more than 95% of teachers have master's degrees or above. Among the teachers, there are more than 160 outstanding talents, including those selected for national talent projects, experts with special government allowances from the State Council, experts with outstanding contributions from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, leading talents from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, famous teachers from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, outstanding experts from Liaoning Province, leading talents from Liaoning Province's "Xingliao Talent Plan", and famous teachers from Liaoning Province. In 2009, 2014 and 2019, the school was awarded the honorary title of "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress" by the State Council for three consecutive years. In 2010, the school was awarded by the Ministry of Education as one of the first 50 universities with typical experience in graduate employment in the country. In 2015, it was named "National Demonstration University for the Creation of Ethnic Unity and Progress", and in 2020 it was again approved as a "National Demonstration Unit for Ethnic Unity and Progress".
