Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine is a university jointly established by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a university under the "14th Five-Year Plan" Education Power Promotion Project, a national "first-class major" and a Shaanxi Provincial "first-class discipline" construction university. The predecessor of Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine was the Northwest School of Traditional Chinese Medicine Founded in Xi'an in 1952, upgraded to Shaanxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1959, and moved to the ancient capital of Xianyang in 1961. It is the only general university in Shaanxi that cultivates high-quality traditional Chinese medicine talents. It is one of the eight key Chinese medicine colleges in the country identified in Document No. 56 of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1978. It recruited and trained master's students in 1978, became the first batch of master's degree awarding institutions in the country in 1981, and was approved by the Ministry of Education in 1990 as the first batch of institutions of higher learning to conditionally accept foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In 2015, it was renamed Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine. In 2019, it was determined to be a first-class enrollment unit in Shaanxi Province. In 2021, it became a university jointly established by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After more than 70 years of construction and development, Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine has become a medical university with Chinese medicine as the main body, equal emphasis on Chinese and Western medicine, and mutual support and cross-integration of medicine, science, engineering, literature, and management. 1. Basic Information The school currently has two campuses, north and south. The north campus is located on Weiyang Middle Road, Qindu District, Xianyang City, and the south campus is located on the banks of Fenghe River in Xixian New District, with a total area of about 860,000 square meters. There are currently 16,474 full-time students, including 13,562 undergraduates, and 2,912 master's students and international students. The university has 14 teaching units, including the School of Basic Medicine, the First Clinical Medical College (with the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Department of Clinical Medicine of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine), the Second Clinical Medical College (with the Department of Clinical Medicine), the School of Pharmacy, the School of Acupuncture and Massage, the School of Nursing, the School of Medical Technology, the School of Public Health, the School of Humanities and Management, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of International Education, the School of Continuing Education, the School of Marxism, and the Department of Physical Education, as well as two medical and educational collaborative units, including the School of Pediatrics and the School of Maternal and Child Health, two directly affiliated hospitals, 13 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and the Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Factory and the Shaanxi Museum of Chinese Medicine. 2. Faculty The university currently has more than 5,000 faculty and staff (including directly affiliated hospitals), 1,181 full-time teachers, including 702 with associate senior titles or above; 964 master's supervisors, 38 part-time doctoral supervisors, and 8 postdoctoral supervisors; and jointly trains doctoral students with the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Chinese medicine universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, Heilongjiang, Zhejiang, and Liaoning. There are 6 national medical masters, national outstanding teachers, and national famous teachers of traditional Chinese medicine, 23 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council and experts with outstanding contributions in Shaanxi Province, young and middle-aged leading talents in scientific and technological innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, leading talents in scientific and technological innovation of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan", and new century outstanding talents of the Ministry of Education, 11 special post scholars of the "Yangtze River Scholar Award Program" of the Ministry of Education, national Qihuang Scholars, and young Qihuang Scholars, 63 national and provincial Chinese medicine expert academic experience inheritance project instructors, 49 famous old Chinese medicine practitioners and famous Chinese medicine practitioners in Shaanxi Province, 26 Shaanxi teaching masters, outstanding teachers, and model teachers (advanced individuals), 67 provincial talents such as Shaanxi "Sanqin Scholars", "Special Support Plan", young and middle-aged leading talents in scientific and technological innovation in Shaanxi Province, young science and technology rising stars in Shaanxi Province, and young outstanding talents in ordinary colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province, 10 excellent teaching teams in Shaanxi Province, 8 key scientific and technological innovation teams in Shaanxi Province, and "Special Support Plan" Sanqin Scholars Innovation Team, forming a faculty team with strong professionalism, high academic level and rich teaching experience. 3. Talent Cultivation Over the past 70 years, the university has adhered to the principle of being based in Shaanxi, facing the northwest, radiating across the country, and exploring overseas. There are 2 national and 20 provincial first-class professional construction sites, 2 national and 6 provincial professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 2 pilot projects for the reform of the Ministry of Education's Excellent Doctor (TCM) Education and Training Program, 8 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 3 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 2 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot colleges (departments), and provincial curriculum ideological and political teaching demonstration centers, provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education training bases, and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education practice bases. There are 2 national boutique online courses, 5 national first-class undergraduate courses, 35 provincial first-class courses, 14 provincial curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses, 4 provincial characteristic online courses, 3 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education courses, 4 provincial innovation and entrepreneurship education online open courses, 20 provincial boutique resource sharing courses, and 5 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects. In recent years, it has won 1 second prize for national teaching achievements; 15 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards, including 2 special prizes and 3 first prizes. IV. Discipline Construction The university has always adhered to the service demand orientation, continuously optimized and adjusted the discipline layout, adhered to the "2+4+4+N" discipline stratification and classification construction, and formed a discipline layout with distinctive characteristics, outstanding advantages and reasonable structure. The disciplines cover five disciplines: medicine, science, engineering, literature and management. There are 17 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 5 disciplines have obtained excellent grades in the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" and "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" key discipline assessment of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Among them, there are 5 high-level key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine in Shaanxi, 6 provincial key disciplines, and 15 key disciplines of the Shaanxi Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are 2 school-level advantageous disciplines, 4 characteristic disciplines, 4 traditional Chinese medicine + interdisciplinary disciplines, and 35 discipline innovation teams. TCM encephalopathy, basic integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, TCM gynecology, clinical integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and Chinese medicine chemistry were selected into the list of high-level key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2023. Traditional Chinese medicine has been selected as a "double first-class" cultivation discipline in Shaanxi Province for two consecutive rounds, and the school has become a "double first-class" cultivation university in Shaanxi Province. The discipline of clinical medicine has entered the top 1% of the ESI global ranking. Medical Services The school currently has 2 directly affiliated hospitals. There are 21 national key disciplines and 22 provincial key disciplines, all of which are national standardized training bases for traditional Chinese medicine physicians and national drug clinical trial institutions. They have outstanding characteristics and complementary advantages, and have made important contributions to protecting the lives and health of the people.The affiliated hospital is one of the seven affiliated hospitals of TCM colleges that were built during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" period. It is one of the first batch of key TCM hospital construction units of the national TCM inheritance and innovation project, a national TCM clinical research base, a national TCM high-level talent training base, a national TCM inheritance and innovation center cultivation unit, and a national TCM clinical teaching and training demonstration center. It has 4 national TCM specialty regional diagnosis and treatment centers. The second affiliated hospital is the first Class A tertiary hospital integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine in Shaanxi Province, a national key hospital integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, a construction unit of the national "flagship" hospital pilot project for the collaboration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, a national massage specialty regional TCM diagnosis and treatment center (cultivation), a Shaanxi Postdoctoral Innovation Base, a Shaanxi TCM Cardiovascular (Specialized) Diagnosis and Treatment Center, and a Shaanxi TCM Culture Construction Demonstration Unit. 7. The School of Science and Technology Industry gives full play to the advantages of TCM industry-university-research cooperation, actively promotes collaborative innovation, takes the initiative to integrate into regional economic construction, serves the big health industry, and has established "government-industry-university-research" cooperation relationships with more than 20 cities and counties including Xianyang City, Weinan City, Yangling Demonstration Zone, Tongchuan City, Baoji City, Shangluo City, Xunyi County, Zizhou County, Jia County, Zhashui County, Zhenba County, and Luonan County. As the technical support unit, the fourth national survey project of Chinese medicine resources was undertaken, and a comprehensive survey of Chinese medicine resources in 107 counties (cities and districts) in the province was conducted, and the resources of Chinese medicine were found out, which provided a decision-making basis for the development of the Chinese medicine industry in our province; more than 30 standardized planting bases of Chinese medicinal materials were established, with a total area of more than 500,000 mu, which played an important role in promoting the economic development of mountainous areas and helping rural revitalization; the series of Chinese patent medicines produced by the school's pharmaceutical factory, such as Guchang Zhixie Pills, Yanyan Qing Pills, Jinsha Wulin Pills, Xiaoyan Tuifever Mixture, Tianma Xuanyunning Mixture, Tongmai Oral Liquid, and Yishi Oral Liquid, are sold well throughout the country, generating huge economic and social benefits. 8. Foreign Exchange The school is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in my country to carry out Chinese medicine education for foreign students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It has the "Chinese Government Scholarship" of the Ministry of Education and the "Sanqin Foreign Student Scholarship" of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. It has established inter-school cooperation and exchange relations with universities in the United States, Canada, South Korea, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and other countries and regions such as Taiwan and Hong Kong, and has trained more than 3,000 Chinese medicine talents for more than 30 countries and regions around the world.
