Putian University is located in Putian City, the hometown of Mazu, the "Goddess of Peace" at sea, and a famous hometown of overseas Chinese on the southeast coast of Fujian. It is a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002. It implements a provincial and municipal co-construction and provincial-based management system. There are 22,000 full-time undergraduate students and 80 master's students. It passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2011, passed the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education in 2017, and successfully accepted a new round of undergraduate education and teaching review and evaluation in 2023. In October 2021, it was approved as a master's degree awarding unit. In 2022, it was selected as a Class A first-class applied construction university in Fujian Province, and was approved for 3 provincial trunk disciplines. History of School: In March 2002, the school was established by merging the former Putian College and the Putian Branch of Fujian Medical University, and absorbing and utilizing the educational resources of Putian Overseas Chinese Sports Normal School. In July 2003, Putian Overseas Chinese Sports Normal School was incorporated as a whole. In October 2013, Xianyou Normal School was incorporated as a whole. The school's history can be traced back to the nurse training class attached to Xinghua Shengjiao Hospital founded in 1898. School conditions: The school has two campuses, the Zixiao campus covers an area of 2,970 acres, and the core area and engineering group have been built and put into use. The campus of the Xueyuan campus covers an area of about 1,150 acres, and the total building area of the school buildings put into use is 837,900 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 426 million yuan, and the library collection of books (including electronic books) is more than 5.32 million. It has 8 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 provincial basic course experimental teaching platforms, 3 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, 11 school-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 20 school-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers; 347 internship training bases, including 5 provincial off-campus practical teaching bases and 1 national off-campus practical teaching base. In 2023, the "National Industrial Internet Platform Project (Putian) Training Base" jointly applied with Beijing Institute of Technology and other colleges and enterprises successfully passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It has 1 affiliated primary school, 1 directly affiliated hospital, 2 non-directly affiliated hospitals, and 27 teaching and internship hospitals. School-running ideas: In accordance with the school-running positioning of "application-oriented, local, open, and distinctive", the school adheres to the principle of "serving needs, being close to the industry, strengthening characteristics, and staggered development", optimizes and strengthens the advantageous disciplines of engineering and medicine, and refines and specializes in humanities and social sciences, and creates a comprehensive university discipline layout with "engineering and medicine dominating, and liberal arts and management showing characteristics", cultivates applied talents with deep love, quick learning, ability to endure hardships, and strong stamina, comprehensively promotes the construction of the "Red, Quality, Cultural, Vitality, and Beautiful" Five Xinpu Colleges and the "Ten Action Plans", and strives to create a new situation in the construction of a first-class applied university. Graduate education: There are three master's degree authorization points in journalism and communication, machinery, and resources and environment. In 2023, 80 people were admitted for the first time, 403 graduate tutors, and 61 high-quality graduate joint training bases were built with enterprises and institutions. We have carried out joint training of master's students with Fuzhou University, Fujian Normal University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fujian Medical University and other universities, recruited 362 joint training master's students, currently have 244 joint training students in school, and 118 have graduated. Serving the local area: Close to the economic and social needs of Fujian Province, closely connected with 13 key industrial chains in Putian City, established 13 special service teams, established 3 industrial technology research institutes such as high-end equipment, and formed 78 innovative scientific research teams to achieve effective connection between industrial chain, innovation chain and talent chain. Established 9 major research institutes including Mazu Culture Research Institute, Putian Culture Research Institute, Mulan River Comprehensive Governance Research Institute, Rural Revitalization Research Institute, Arts and Crafts Research Institute, Footwear and Clothing Industry Research Institute, Fragrance Culture Industry Research Institute, Overseas Chinese Research Institute, and Women's Theory Research Institute to create the Putian Institute think tank brand. Established strategic cooperative relations with counties and districts (management committees) in Putian City, actively carried out industry-university-research cooperation with government departments, industry associations, industrial parks, and enterprises, and established Putian Economic Development Research Center, Putian Tourism Development Research Center, Putian High-end Equipment Industry Technology Research Institute, Putian Circular Economy Industry Technology Research Institute, etc. to jointly build 19 industry-university-research cooperation research platforms.
