Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities is located in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, in Tongliao City, the core area of Xiliaohe civilization and known as the "Pearl of Horqin Grassland". It is a key university in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and a university jointly built by the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. The predecessor of the school was Tongliao Normal College, Jirim League Health School, and Jirim League Agricultural and Animal Husbandry School, which were established in 1958; after development, the three schools were renamed Inner Mongolia Normal College for Nationalities, Inner Mongolia Mongolian Medical College, and Jirim Animal Husbandry College. In June 2000, with the approval of the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the three colleges merged to form Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities. The school began to recruit undergraduates in 1965, was approved as a master's degree-granting institution in 1998, and was approved in 2012 for the Chinese Medicine (Mongolian Medicine) to serve the country's special needs doctoral talent training project. In 2021, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution. After 66 years of inheritance and 66 years of wind and rain, the university has now developed into a comprehensive university with complete disciplines, distinctive school characteristics, and integrated undergraduate, master and doctoral talent training. It has trained more than 200,000 talents of various types, and has made important contributions to the national and local economic and social development and the security and stability of northern Xinjiang. The school has two campuses, Huolin River and Xilamulun, covering an area of 952 acres, a school building area of 415,000 square meters, a total fixed asset value of 1.69 billion yuan, a total value of 447 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment, and a collection of 1.818 million paper books. There are currently 27 teaching units, 7 teaching auxiliary units and 1 Class A affiliated hospital. There are 80 undergraduate majors, covering 11 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art. There is currently one first-level discipline authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 17 first-level disciplines authorized to confer master's degrees, 13 master's professional degree authorization points, and 16 provincial and ministerial key and key cultivation disciplines. There are 24,168 full-time students, including 21,610 undergraduates and junior college students, 2,541 postgraduates, 17 doctoral students, and 121 international students; there are also 259 adult undergraduates. There are 1,948 faculty members, including 1,271 full-time teachers, 689 teachers with senior professional titles, and 591 teachers with doctoral degrees. Eight people have won honorary titles such as National Advanced Worker, National May 1st Labor Medal, National March 8th Red Flag Bearer, National Excellent Teacher, National Excellent Educator, and National Excellent Ideological and Political Theory Teacher of Colleges and Universities; there are 2 members of the National Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee; 21 experts enjoy special government allowances from the State Council. 165 high-level talents have been flexibly introduced, including 5 academicians, 3 members of the Academy of Social Sciences, 3 "Yangtze River Scholars", and 1 National Outstanding Youth. The school adheres to pragmatic, innovative, open, and characteristic schooling, and deepens the reform of education and teaching to comprehensively improve the quality of talent training. There are 7 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and 14 autonomous region first-class undergraduate professional construction sites; 3 national characteristic majors, 1 national professional comprehensive reform pilot major, and 1 "Excellent Doctor (TCM) Education and Training Program" project major. There are 4 autonomous region key construction majors and 18 brand majors; 9 national first-class courses, 40 autonomous region first-class courses, 6 autonomous region boutique online open courses, and 2 autonomous region course ideological and political demonstration courses; 9 "Four New" projects of the Ministry of Education. There is 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national clinical teaching training demonstration center, 1 national language and writing promotion base, and 1 Ministry of Education college student off-campus practice education base; 1 autonomous region course ideological and political teaching research demonstration center, 6 autonomous region experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 1 autonomous region college student science and technology innovation training base. There is 1 national teaching team; 1 second prize for the third Chinese college humanities and social sciences outstanding achievements of the Ministry of Education; 3 second prizes for national teaching achievements, 53 autonomous region teaching achievement awards, and 12 teaching achievement awards for ethnic colleges and universities of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. There are 30 natural science research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 1 National Development and Reform Commission Engineering Research Center, 1 Ministry of Education Key Laboratory, 1 State Drug Administration Key Laboratory, and 2 State Ethnic Affairs Commission Key Laboratories. There are 21 humanities and social science research platforms at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 1 National Social Science Popularization Base, 3 National Ethnic Affairs Commission Research Bases, and 1 State Sports General Administration Research Base. There are 15 provincial and ministerial science and technology innovation teams. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, 137 projects such as the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation have been approved. 124 projects of the National Social Science Fund and the Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences have been approved, including 5 major projects and 3 key projects of the National Social Science Fund. 26 natural science awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level have been won, including 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize of the Ministry of Education Technological Invention Award, 1 first prize of the National Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Harvest Award, 1 first prize, 9 second prizes, and 7 third prizes of the Autonomous Region Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 second prize and 4 third prizes of the Autonomous Region Natural Science Award. The university has won 93 awards in the humanities and social sciences, including 2 first prizes, 23 second prizes, and 65 third prizes in the philosophy and social sciences of the autonomous region, 2 third prizes and 1 excellent prize for outstanding achievements of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. 150 invention patents have been authorized. There are currently 6 versions of academic journals published and distributed publicly, among which "Journal of Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities" (Social Science Edition) and "Research on Ethnic Higher Education" are AMI extended journals. The school is a training unit for Chinese government scholarships and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People's Government Scholarships for international students. It has established friendly cooperative relations with 35 foreign universities and research institutions, including the Buryat State Agricultural University in Russia, the National University of Ireland, Cork, the University of Greensboro in the United States, the Joetsu University of Education in Japan, and the Eurasian Pacific Academic Association. As one of the member universities of the "China-Mongolia University Alliance" of the Ministry of Education, the school actively responds to the national "Belt and Road" initiative, focuses on the important bridgehead task of opening up to the north, gives full play to its geographical and disciplinary advantages, and actively carries out undergraduate "2+2", undergraduate and master talents "2+2+2", "4+2" and doctoral talent joint training programs with the National University of Education and the National Medical University of Mongolia. Mongolian medicine is a characteristic and advantageous discipline of our school. Mongolian medicine and Mongolian Western medicine are high-level key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mongolian medicine is a first-class construction discipline of the autonomous region, and Mongolian Western medicine basic medicine is a key discipline of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. In 2015, the Mongolian medicine major was approved by the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Doctor Training Program", in 2020, the Mongolian medicine major was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, in 2018, it was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission Mongolian Medicine Research and Development National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center, and in 2021, it was approved by the State Food and Drug Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Mongolian Medicine) Quality Control Key Laboratory. In 2021, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution, and a doctoral degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of traditional Chinese medicine was added. In 2022, it was approved as an integrated research platform for the development and utilization of traditional Chinese (Mongolian) medicine resources in the autonomous region. The school has become an important talent training base and academic research base for Mongolian medicine. There is currently one directly affiliated hospital and six non-directly affiliated teaching hospitals. The affiliated hospital is a national third-level Class A Mongolian medicine comprehensive hospital, a national key hospital of integrated Chinese (Mongolian) and Western medicine, a national practicing physician examination center, the first national standardized training base for clinical medicine and Mongolian medicine residents, and a national clinical skills training demonstration base. There are 2,597 health technicians and 2,000 beds. In recent years, the school has won many honors. In 2009, it was rated as a national "model collective for national unity and progress", in 2012 it was rated as an "advanced unit for foreign cultural exchanges in the whole region", in 2017 it was rated as an "advanced collective for national unity and progress in the whole region", and in 2018 it was rated as an excellent unit of the Ministry of Education's information pilot university. In 2014, the affiliated hospital was rated as a "National Model Collective for Ethnic Unity and Progress", and the Mongolian Medical College was rated as an "Advanced Collective in the National Education System".
