Shangluo University is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Government. It is located in Shangluo City, the intersection of Qin and Chu cultures, an old revolutionary base, and the hometown of the contemporary famous writer Jia Pingwa. Shangluo is located in the southeast of Shaanxi Province, at the southern foot of the Qinling Mountains, 110 kilometers away from the provincial capital Xi'an, bordering Henan to the east and Hubei to the southeast. It spans the two major river basins of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. It is compatible with the Qinling Mountains and Chu, with a long history and culture, four distinct seasons and mild climate, rich ecological tourism and natural resources, and enjoys the reputation of "Shangluo is the most beautiful in the Qinling Mountains" and "China's Climate Health Care Capital". The school originated from the Shangluo District Wuqi Normal College of Shaanxi Province, which was established in 1976. In 1979, it was renamed the Shangluo Special Training Department of Shaanxi Normal University. In 1984, it was renamed Shangluo Normal College with the approval of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 1987, it was transferred to the management of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. In 2005, it merged with the Shaanxi Shangluo Agricultural School. In 2006, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to upgrade to Shangluo University. In 2011, it became a provincial and municipal co-constructed university. In 2014, it was selected as one of the first batch of pilot universities for transformation and development in Shaanxi Province. In 2016, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it was selected as one of the 100 applied universities in the national industry-education integration development project determined by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. In 2018, it was selected as a "first-class college" construction unit in Shaanxi Province. The school adheres to the university spirit of "self-improvement and perfection", the school philosophy of "teaching for learning and practice is the most important" and the school motto of "extensive knowledge, strong will, and upright path". It adheres to the school positioning of "based in Shangluo, facing the local area, serving the grassroots, cultivating applied talents, and building an applied undergraduate college with coordinated development of multiple disciplines". It has condensed and formed three distinctive school-running characteristics of "development and utilization of modern Chinese medicine resources and green food in Qinling Mountains, comprehensive development and utilization of mineral resources in Qinling Mountains, and inheritance and innovation of local culture such as Jia Pingwa research and Qinling painting school", and has cultivated more than 50,000 qualified talents, making positive contributions to the regional economic and social development. The school has 11 secondary colleges and a physical education teaching and research department, including the School of Marxism, the School of Humanities, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Health Management, the School of Mathematics and Computer Applications, the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, the School of Chemical Engineering and Modern Materials, the School of Biomedicine and Food Engineering, the School of Urban and Rural Planning and Architectural Engineering, the School of Art, and the School of Continuing Education. It offers 41 undergraduate majors and enrolls students from 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government, with more than 12,000 students on campus. The school implements the strategy of "strengthening the school with talents" and currently has more than 800 faculty and staff. Academician Zhao Pengda of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Zhang Shengyong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering were hired as "double-appointed academicians".
