Shanghai Business School is a public institution of higher learning with applied economics and business administration as its main body and distinctive business characteristics. Its predecessor was the East China Branch of the Central Taxation School established in 1950. The school has 13 secondary colleges and 31 undergraduate majors. In 2021, the school was approved by the State Council Degree Committee as a master's degree awarding institution, and tourism management and international business were approved as master's degree authorization points. The school has four campuses in Fengpu, Zhongshan West Road, Caobao Road, and Guoquan Road and one school in Fuzhou Road, with more than 9,000 full-time students and 783 faculty and staff. The school fully implements the party's education policy, adheres to the school-running philosophy of "establishing the school with business and application as the basis", adheres to the school motto of "being virtuous and knowledgeable, managing the world and benefiting the people", and strives to create "application-oriented, innovative, and internationalized" school-running characteristics, and strives to cultivate high-quality application-oriented business talents with social responsibility, professional quality, practical ability, innovative spirit, and international vision. The school is committed to building a distinctive high-level applied business university. At present, it has formed a comprehensive and multi-level education framework from undergraduate to graduate education, from full-time to adult education and international student education. The school focuses on strengthening the construction of characteristic business majors (groups), and has been selected as the "Fourth Batch of Characteristic Majors Construction Points of Higher Education Institutions" by the Ministry of Education, the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot projects of undergraduate majors in local universities in the "Undergraduate Teaching Project" of the Ministry of Education, and the "Shanghai Higher Education First-Class Undergraduate Construction Leading Plan". Five majors, including business administration, e-commerce, hotel management, international economics and trade, and logistics management, are national first-class undergraduate major construction points, eight majors, including finance, computer science and technology, are Shanghai first-class undergraduate major construction points, and nine majors, including taxation, are pilot applied undergraduate majors in Shanghai universities. Four majors, including business administration, hotel management, e-commerce, and marketing, have passed the ACBSP international certification, and the food quality and safety major has passed the IFT professional certification. The school has carried out comprehensive strategic cooperation with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics to accelerate the construction of discipline special zones, focusing on building a characteristic business discipline system with applied economics and business administration as the main body and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. Applied economics is a Class II plateau discipline in Shanghai, and business administration has been selected into the first-class discipline (Class B) cultivation plan of Shanghai universities. The school focuses on the coordinated high-quality development of production, teaching and research. It has carried out 9 national and municipal "four new" projects, and achieved full coverage of the construction of new engineering, new agricultural and new liberal arts projects of the Ministry of Education. It has been approved as 2 Shanghai-level key industrial colleges, and has the China Training Base for the World Skills Competition and the Shanghai Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base. In the past five years, it has won 123 scientific research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, such as the National Social Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences, and has won more than 10 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards such as the Shanghai Decision-making Consulting Research Achievement Award. Based on national and local strategies and major industry needs, the school deepens its comprehensive strategic cooperation with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and carries out high-quality commercial (business) application research and consulting services. It has municipal scientific research bases and platforms such as the Shanghai Business Development Research Institute, Shanghai University Think Tank, Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base, Shanghai University Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences, and Shanghai University Knowledge Service Platform. In the past five years, more than 90 decision-making consulting results have been approved by provincial and ministerial leaders. The school has built a training base for business officials of the Ministry of Commerce, and has trained 8,666 business officials from 144 countries (regions). The school adheres to open education and strives to enhance its international reputation and influence. The "Shanghai Lausanne Hotel Management School", a Sino-foreign cooperative institution jointly applied for with the Lausanne Hotel Management School in Switzerland, was officially approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2021. At present, there are 290 undergraduate students in two majors, hotel management and e-commerce. The school has carried out cooperation and exchanges with 108 universities and research institutions in countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, initiated the establishment of the "Belt and Road" International Business Education Alliance, formed an international high-end think tank alliance, and established an overseas education base in Central and Eastern Europe. The school focuses on the inheritance of traditional business culture and the cultivation of socialist core values. It has built a Chinese Business Culture Exhibition Hall and a Shanghai Business Culture Research Institute, produced commercial feature films such as "A Century of Shanghai Business", "A Century of Retail", and "A Century of Trade", and hosted the interview and selection activities of the Shanghai Division of the "Chinese Poetry Conference" (Season 2 and Season 3), and the municipal-level "Reading Red Classics˙Being a Faith Heir" theme reading activities. The school has won honors such as "National Advanced Collective for Popularization of Common Language and Writing", "Silver Award of the Second China Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition", "National Defense Education Featured School of the Ministry of Education", "Excellent Organization Award of the 2019 Chinese Classic Recitation, Writing and Speaking Competition of the Ministry of Education", "Shanghai Second Civilized Campus", and "Shanghai Safe and Civilized Campus".
