Bengbu University is a provincial general undergraduate university with engineering as its main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school started higher education in 1978. In April 2007, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and established on the basis of the merger of the original Bengbu Education College, Bengbu Higher Vocational College, and Bengbu Workers University. In August 2011, the school management system was changed from "province-city co-construction, city-management-based" to "province-city co-construction, province-management-based". In November 2014, it passed the undergraduate teaching work qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In November 2019, it passed the undergraduate teaching work review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In 2019, it was identified as a provincial project construction unit for master's degree training. The school covers an area of 1,128 mu, with a campus building area of 370,000 m2, a total fixed asset value of 800 million yuan, a total teaching and research equipment value of 166 million yuan, 1.4453 million paper books, 974,700 electronic books, 24 electronic resources (databases), 1,092 paper journals, and 12 provincial demonstration experimental training centers and virtual simulation experimental teaching centers. The school currently has 55 undergraduate majors, covering seven disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, literature, art, and education. It has 14 secondary colleges (teaching departments) and more than 17,300 full-time students. The school currently has 930 faculty members, including 709 full-time teachers, 238 with senior professional and technical positions, 93 teachers with doctoral degrees, 1 national outstanding teacher, 46 provincial model teachers and outstanding teachers, 1 provincial academic and technical leader candidate, 1 person enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 1 person enjoying special allowances from the provincial government, 18 provincial teaching masters, 2 provincial ideological and political teaching masters, 3 provincial online teaching masters, and 28 provincial newcomers. The school insists on promoting and deepening education and teaching reforms, and has been selected as the second batch of demonstration construction colleges of the Ministry of Education's scientific work capacity improvement plan (hundreds of millions of projects), approved the first batch of 2 national first-class undergraduate courses, and selected 11 majors in the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of national first-class undergraduate majors. It has established 12 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, 6 provincial outstanding talent education and training plan majors, and 11 provincial school-enterprise cooperation practice education bases. It has 15 provincial high-level teaching teams, 4 provincial master studios, and has been approved for 50 provincial teaching achievement awards. The school adheres to the needs of local economic and social development, fully implements the new concept of higher education of "student-centered, output-oriented, and continuous improvement", and has been approved by the Ministry of Education for 91 collaborative education projects of industry-university cooperation. Deeply promote the reform of the talent training model of industry-education integration, and co-build six industrial colleges with industry enterprises, including Huawei Information and Network Technology College, Bozhi Shenxue Artificial Intelligence College, China Communications Association Logistics Industry College, Huashu High-tech 3D Printing Industry College, Fengyuan Bioengineering Industry College, and Guoxian Technology Intelligent Manufacturing Industry College. The school insists on collaborative innovation and is committed to serving the society. It has co-built the Anhui Province Silicon-based New Materials Collaborative Innovation Center with the Bengbu Municipal People's Government and the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and included it in the comprehensive innovation cooperation project between the provincial government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has established provincial scientific research platforms such as the Anhui Province Silicon-based New Materials Engineering Laboratory and the Anhui Province Engineering Technology Research Center for Silicon-based New Materials, as well as 6 municipal scientific research platforms such as the Bengbu Municipal Laboratory of Functional Powder Materials. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has been approved for 6 National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation projects, 152 provincial and ministerial projects such as the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Projects, and 544 patents, including 83 invention patents. The university has steadily promoted open education, focusing on countries along the Belt and Road, and has established cooperative relations with universities in Hungary, Ukraine, Ireland, the United States, South Korea, Italy, Thailand and other countries. It actively promotes the construction of Bengbu as an international friendly city and offers Hungarian courses in non-common languages. With the focus on serving the country's lifelong education and the construction of a learning society, it has built the Bengbu Branch of the National Digital Learning Resource Center. It is a "National Workers' Education and Training Demonstration Site" of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions and a key institution for migrant workers training of the Anhui Provincial Department of Education. The school fully implements the fundamental task of cultivating people with moral integrity, adheres to the school motto of "studying diligently, emphasizing practice, cultivating morality, and establishing talents", and is committed to cultivating applied senior professionals, and has achieved good results in running schools. In recent years, the initial employment rate of graduates has remained stable at 90%, higher than the provincial average. From 2015 to 2018, the college was rated "excellent" for four consecutive years in the comprehensive assessment of the provincial party committee.
