Zhejiang University is a prestigious institution of higher learning with a long history. It is located in Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city and a scenic tourist destination in China. The predecessor of Zhejiang University, Qiushi Academy, was founded in 1897 and was one of the earliest modern institutions of higher learning founded by the Chinese themselves. In 1928, it was named National Zhejiang University. During the Anti-Japanese War, Zhejiang University moved westward and operated in Zunyi, Meitan and other places in Guizhou for seven years. In the autumn of 1946, it moved back to Hangzhou. When the colleges and departments of colleges and universities across the country were adjusted in 1952, some departments of Zhejiang University were transferred to brother universities and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The main part that remained in Hangzhou was divided into several single-discipline colleges, which later developed into the original Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University. In 1998, the four schools with the same roots merged to form the new Zhejiang University, embarking on a new journey to create a world-class university. During his work in Zhejiang, Comrade Xi Jinping personally contacted Zhejiang University, visited the university 18 times for guidance, and made a series of important instructions on the reform and development of the university. In April 2023, on the eve of the 15th Party Congress of the university, General Secretary Xi Jinping once again made important instructions to the university, drawing up a grand blueprint for building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics at a high level. In its 127-year history, Zhejiang University has always adhered to the fine tradition of "seeking truth and innovation" as its motto, taking the world as its responsibility and truth as its basis, and gradually formed the common values of Zhejiang University students of "diligent learning, moral cultivation, discernment, and honesty" and the spirit of Zhejiang University of "embracing the sea, enlightening the truth, opening up the world, and building our country". Zhejiang University is a comprehensive, research-oriented, innovative university with distinctive characteristics and great influence at home and abroad. Its disciplines cover 13 categories, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, art, and interdisciplinary subjects. It has 7 faculties, 40 professional colleges (departments), 1 engineering college, 2 Sino-foreign cooperative colleges, and 7 directly affiliated hospitals. The university currently has 7 campuses, including Zijingang, Yuquan, Xixi, Huajiachi, Zhijiang, Zhoushan, and Haining, covering an area of 7,390,613 square meters, and the total collection of the library is 8.086 million volumes. By the end of 2023, the university has 67,656 full-time students, 5,514 international students, and 9,557 faculty members. Among the faculty members, there are 27 full-time academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 21 full-time academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 14 senior professors of liberal arts, 131 distinguished professors of the "Changjiang Scholars Program" of the Ministry of Education, and 210 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. In 2022, Zhejiang University was selected as a university in the second round of "Double First-Class" construction, and 21 disciplines were selected in the list of first-class disciplines. Most disciplines have made gratifying progress in the fifth round of discipline evaluation. Zhejiang University closely focuses on the core requirements of "both moral and talented, and all-round development", fully implements the fundamental task of establishing morality and cultivating people, accelerates the construction of an excellent education system centered on student growth, and strives to cultivate high-quality innovative talents and leaders with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, and global competitiveness.
