Changsha Medical College is a general institution of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2005 (Jiaofa Letter [2005] No. 39), and is the first private medical undergraduate college in China. Its predecessor was the Xiangnan Secondary Health Vocational and Technical School founded in 1989 by Professor He Binsheng, a representative of the 12th National People's Congress, an advanced worker in the national education system, a national outstanding educator, and the president. In 1996, it was renamed Xiangnan Health Secondary Vocational School, and in 1999 it was upgraded to Xiangnan Medical College. In 2001, the school moved to Changsha. In 2011, the school passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation of the Ministry of Education, in 2015 it passed the clinical medicine professional certification of the Ministry of Education, in 2017 it was included in the construction site of the master's degree awarding unit in Hunan Province, and in 2019 it accepted the review and evaluation of the undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education, which was fully affirmed and highly evaluated by experts. In 2021, it won the title of "Excellent Unit in the 2020 School Operation Inspection of Private Undergraduate Schools in Hunan Province"; the "Changsha Medical College Ideological and Political Teaching Research Center" was rated as the first batch of ideological and political teaching research demonstration centers in Hunan Province (only 11 universities in the province's general higher education category were rated, and our school is the only private undergraduate university to be rated). The school governs the school according to law and develops scientifically. It has been rated as a national advanced school-running unit, one of the top ten honest private universities in China, a national advanced employment university, a civilized university in Hunan Province, one of the top ten private schools in Hunan Province, an advanced unit for education poverty alleviation in private schools in Hunan Province, an advanced unit for fighting the new crown pneumonia epidemic in private schools in Hunan Province, and a safe university in Hunan Province. The school covers an area of 1.655 million square meters, with a construction area of 786,100 square meters, 447,700 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, and 270,100 square meters of student dormitories. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 209.1857 million yuan, the total number of book resources is 2,562,936, there are 45 Chinese and foreign databases, the total area of sports venues is 75,700 square meters (the gymnasium is 33,000 square meters), and the main school conditions meet or exceed the requirements stipulated by the state. The university focuses on medicine, and the disciplines of medicine, literature, engineering, science, management, education, and economics develop in a coordinated manner. It has established 16 secondary colleges and 32 undergraduate majors, including 1 national characteristic major, 1 major certified by the Ministry of Education, 1 provincial characteristic major, 3 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 3 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors, 1 key construction discipline in Hunan Province, 1 "Double First-Class" applied characteristic discipline in Hunan Province, 2 key laboratories in Hunan Province, 1 teaching team of ordinary higher education institutions in Hunan Province, 3 excellent courses, 3 excellent online open courses, 24 first-class undergraduate courses, 2 ideological and political demonstration courses in courses, 3 excellent teaching and research offices in Hunan Province, 1 demonstration laboratory, 4 excellent internship bases, 1 ideological and political teaching and research demonstration center in Hunan Province, 1 virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 college student innovation training center, 1 college student innovation and entrepreneurship incubation demonstration base, 1 college student science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship ability training base, 2 school-enterprise cooperation talent training demonstration bases, 5 innovation and entrepreneurship education bases, and 6 innovation and entrepreneurship education centers. The school has won 5 second prizes and 10 third prizes for provincial teaching achievements in higher education in Hunan Province; and 2 third prizes for natural science awards in Hunan Province. In the 32-year history of running schools, the school has adhered to the school-running purpose of "thousand-year-old medicine, benefiting the world and benefiting the people", carried forward the spirit of "virtue, erudition, energy storage, and truth-seeking", and always adhered to the educational philosophy of teacher-oriented school-running and student-oriented teaching; adhered to the educational thought of combining medicine with humanities, combining erudition with specialization, and giving equal weight to theory and practice, and continuously promoted the comprehensive development of higher education. Gradually formed the school-running characteristics of combining medical education with research and cultivating grassroots applied medical and health talents, and made positive contributions to the development of medical education and health undertakings in my country and the development of local economic and social development.
