Wuhan City College was established in July 2002. Its predecessor was Wuhan University of Science and Technology City College. In February 2021, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the consent of the People's Government of Hubei Province, it was renamed Wuhan City College. The school currently has 17,159 students, 36 undergraduate majors, and 12 junior college majors, covering seven major disciplines: engineering, humanities, social sciences, science, medicine, management, and art. The layout structure of undergraduate majors is: 12 engineering majors account for 35%, 2 science majors account for 5%, 3 humanities majors account for 8%, 2 social science majors account for 8%, 2 science majors account for 5%, 2 medicine majors account for 5%, 10 management majors account for 25%, and 5 art majors account for 25%. It has formed a school-running feature with engineering as the main discipline and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school covers a total area of more than 1,560 acres, with a construction area of more than 551,700 square meters, and complete teaching and living facilities. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment is 87.489 million yuan, and the library has a collection of more than 1.37 million paper books and 617,000 electronic resources. There are 76 experimental training rooms of various types, among which the Nursing Experimental Training Center was awarded the title of "Provincial Key Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center". The school attaches great importance to the construction of the teaching staff, and strives to promote the "three major projects" such as the "Backbone Teacher Training Program", and implements the "Four Major Programs" such as the "High-level Talent Introduction Program" and the "Young Teacher Doctor Training Program". There are 723 full-time teachers, and the student-teacher ratio is 17.4:1. Among the full-time teachers, 562 have a master's degree or above, accounting for 77.73% of the total number of full-time teachers; 230 have professional and technical titles of associate senior or above, accounting for 31.81% of the total number of full-time teachers; among them, 51 full-time teachers have senior professional titles, accounting for 7.05% of the total number of full-time teachers. The school is committed to the construction of applied undergraduates. Adhering to the school-running philosophy of "education-oriented, quality-based school, characteristic development, and striving for first-class", professional construction is closely aligned with social needs, and the school is integrated into regional development. The school has established the talent training goal of "based on the Wuhan urban circle, facing the Hubei industrial cluster, radiating the Central China Economic Belt, with both technical and moral cultivation, personality and social responsibility, high-quality compound application". It focuses on the construction of information science professional groups supported by the big data and artificial intelligence knowledge system based on "computer science and technology", facing new industries, and creating a high-level application-oriented engineering innovation talent training model; the large medical and nursing professional group based on the "nursing" major, facing the medical and nursing industry, building a "school + hospital" collaborative education model with the characteristics of "nursing and education collaboration"; the e-commerce logistics professional group based on the "business administration" major, creating a new industry education model with the characteristics of "new format + innovation and entrepreneurship". The school vigorously promotes the reform of the application-oriented talent training model, focuses on the construction of "new engineering", "new medicine" and "new business", and has strong teaching strength and high teaching level. There are 9 provincial key majors, 4 provincial teaching teams, and 1 provincial internship and training base. In the past three years, teachers of the school have undertaken 2 national scientific research projects, 5 provincial scientific research projects, 5 teaching and research projects, 1 humanities and social science project of the Ministry of Education, 25 horizontal scientific research projects, 63 school-level scientific research projects, and 98 teaching and research projects. They have won 1 second prize and 1 third prize of Hubei Science and Technology Progress Award. In the past three years, the admission rate for the postgraduate entrance examination has remained above 11%. In the Chinese university rankings released in 2021, Wuhan City University was rated as China's top private university, China's six-star private university, and ranked sixth among private universities in the country.
