The predecessor of Shandong Modern University was Shandong Minjin Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Continuing Education College, which was founded in 1993. In 2003, with the approval of the Shandong Provincial People's Government, Shandong Minjin Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Continuing Education College and Shandong Modern Computer College merged to form Shandong Modern Vocational College. In 2015, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shandong Modern College was established on the basis of Shandong Modern Vocational College, becoming a private undergraduate college. In 2021, the school was identified as a support unit for the construction of applied undergraduate colleges in Shandong Province. The school has 8 teaching units, including the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Nursing, the School of Humanities and Management, the School of Electronic Information, the School of Engineering, the School of Marxism, and the Basic Department. It offers 25 undergraduate majors and 18 junior college majors, and has initially formed a discipline and professional system with medicine and engineering as the main body, and coordinated development of medicine, engineering, education, management, art, and literature. There are 17,308 full-time students, including 10,610 undergraduates. There are 4 provincial first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 1 provincial first-class undergraduate course, and 3 provincial online open courses. In the past three years, it has been approved for 35 projects of industry-university cooperation and collaborative education by the Ministry of Education, 28 projects of supply-demand docking employment education by the Ministry of Education, 13 provincial teaching reform projects, and 1 provincial teaching achievement award second prize. In the past three academic years, 1,253 people have won various college student competition awards at the provincial level and above, including 17 national first prizes and 19 second prizes, 80 provincial first prizes, and 386 second prizes. The school currently has 1,041 faculty members and 729 full-time teachers. Among the faculty, 164 have senior professional titles, and 651 have master's and doctoral degrees. There are 101 external teachers (equivalent). Four people enjoy special government subsidies from the State Council, one is named a national outstanding teacher, two are awarded the title of young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Shandong Province, and three are named Shandong Province Teaching Masters. 16 teachers have won awards in important competitions such as the Shandong Provincial College Teachers' Teaching Innovation Competition, the Shandong Provincial College Young Teachers' Teaching Competition, and the Shandong Provincial College Sports Teachers' Basic Skills Competition, including 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes. Teaching conditions The school covers a total area of 703,600 square meters and a total construction area of 382,000 square meters. The area of teaching and administrative buildings is 169,500 square meters, and the area of student dormitories is 170,600 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 149.8469 million yuan. The library has a collection of 1.8106 million paper books. There are 10 experimental training centers and 163 experimental training rooms. In the past two years, 127 million yuan was invested to build two high-standard student apartment buildings with an area of 38,000 square meters, 105 million yuan was invested to build a modern library with an area of 36,800 square meters, 16.6779 million yuan was invested to build a smart teaching command center and 256 smart classrooms, and 48.4968 million yuan was invested to build and upgrade 67 experimental training rooms. The school's operating conditions have been greatly improved. The scientific research school actively cooperates with government departments and industry enterprises to carry out scientific and technological research, technology research and development, consulting services and other work, and has completed 34 corporate consulting reports. In the past five years, teachers have participated in one National Social Science Fund project, presided over one Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Science Fund project, and one State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine project; presided over 69 provincial and municipal projects, including one Shandong Natural Science Fund project, seven Shandong Key R&D Plan projects, and 20 Shandong Social Science Planning projects; published 31 academic works and textbooks; published 776 academic papers, including 54 included in SCI, CSSCI, EI, Peking University Chinese Core Journals, etc.; obtained 201 patents and software works; and won one third prize for outstanding scientific research achievements of Shandong Higher Education Institutions. Cooperation and Exchange The school adheres to open education and has signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with the Education, Culture and Sports Department of Jinan High-tech Zone to jointly build 8 projects such as the industry-education consortium, preschool education and childcare service industry-education integration community; signed an agreement with Shandong Kaichuang Group to jointly build a modern industrial college of digital economy and big data; established a relatively stable cooperative relationship with nearly 300 enterprises and institutions; signed cooperation agreements with universities such as Korea University in South Korea and Chia Nan University of Pharmacy and Science in Taiwan, and carried out exchanges and cooperation in teacher exchange, student study, credit recognition, and curriculum co-construction. In 2023, the school hosted the 3rd International Conference on Quaternion Matrix Computation and Application. More than 200 experts and scholars from Northeastern Federal University of Russia, Peking University, National University of Defense Technology, University of Hong Kong, University of Macau and other countries attended the meeting, which effectively promoted the school's foreign academic exchanges and high-level discipline and professional construction. Social Reputation Over the past 30 years, the school has trained a large number of outstanding graduates. In the past three years, 1,002 students have won the title of provincial outstanding graduates and 82 have won the title of provincial outstanding students. The employment rate of undergraduate graduates in 2023 is 86.65%, and the school's management level and talent training quality are generally recognized by the society.
