Wuxi Vocational and Technical College is a state-owned, provincial full-time general higher vocational college, located in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, on the shore of Taihu Lake with beautiful scenery and outstanding people. The school was formerly the Wuxi Agricultural Machinery Manufacturing School founded by the former Ministry of Agricultural Machinery in March 1959; in March 1979, it was renamed Jiangsu Wuxi Machinery Manufacturing School; in July 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to a general higher vocational college and renamed Wuxi Vocational and Technical College, which is affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. The school is one of the first batch of "national exemplary higher vocational colleges". In 2012, it began to pilot four-year higher vocational undergraduate education to cultivate technical and skilled talents at the undergraduate level. In 2018, it was selected as an excellent higher vocational college construction unit in Jiangsu Province. In 2019, it was selected as a national "double high" A-level construction college. In 2024, it ranked first in the country in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of higher vocational colleges. In 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, it won the first place in the comprehensive assessment of high-level higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province for five consecutive years. The school currently has two campuses, Zhongqiao and Taihu. The school covers an area of more than 850 acres, with a construction area of 398,000 square meters; the total assets are 1.795 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 4.5.7 billion yuan, and the library has a collection of more than 1.5 million books. At present, there are 16 teaching units including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Control Engineering, the School of Internet of Things Engineering, the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, the School of Integrated Circuits, the School of Management, the School of Finance and Economics, the School of Culture and Tourism, the School of Design and Art, the Basic Course Teaching Department, the School of Marxism, the Department of Physical Education, the Department of Public Foreign Languages, the Open Source Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, the International Education College, and the Irish College. It has co-built 8 industrial colleges with companies such as Schneider and Siemens. At present, there are more than 14,400 full-time undergraduate and international students and more than 1,000 faculty and staff. The school adheres to the school motto of "rigorous scholarship and advocating practice" and is committed to building a high-level "dual-teacher" structural professional teaching team. Among the full-time teachers, there are more than 70 professors and more than 160 doctors. The school presided over the construction of two national professional teaching resource libraries for numerical control technology and Internet of Things technology, and has 1 national excellent teaching material special award, 1 course ideological and political demonstration course, 13 national quality courses, 13 national quality resource sharing courses, 6 national online quality courses, and 58 national planning textbooks. In 2021, CCTV1's "News Network" reported on the school's successful experience in building a professional cluster of intelligent manufacturing and enabling industrial development. The school has been constantly pioneering and advancing on the road of internationalization of higher vocational education. In 2004, it became the first Chinese member unit of the Community College International Development Alliance (CCID) headquartered in the United States. In 2012, CCID established a Chinese branch center at the school. In recent years, the school has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 50 colleges and universities in more than 20 countries including the United States, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Denmark, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school has successively held 8 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. In 2018, the Jiangsu Provincial Government approved the establishment of the first non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperative education institution-Wuxi Vocational and Technical College Ireland College after filing with the Ministry of Education. The school's Sino-US, Sino-Danish and Sino-Australian cooperative education projects were successfully selected by the Provincial Department of Education for 2016, 2017, and 2018 Sino-foreign cooperative education high-level demonstration construction projects. In 2021 and 2022, the school's CNC technology major and industrial robot technology major were selected as brand majors for international talent training in Jiangsu Province's "14th Five-Year Plan". In 2014, the school started education for international students in China, recruiting more than 2,232 international students from more than 60 countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, etc. In 2023, the school passed the first batch of higher vocational education quality certification for international students in China by the Ministry of Education. The school is one of the first pilot institutions of the Ministry of Education's "Future Africa-China-Africa Vocational Education Cooperation Plan".
