Wuxi Vocational and Technical College is a state-owned, provincial full-time general higher vocational college, located in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, on the shore of Taihu Lake with beautiful scenery and outstanding people. The school was formerly the Wuxi Agricultural Machinery Manufacturing School founded by the former Ministry of Agricultural Machinery in March 1959; in March 1979, it was renamed Jiangsu Wuxi Machinery Manufacturing School; in July 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to a general higher vocational college and renamed Wuxi Vocational and Technical College, which is affiliated to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. The school is one of the first batch of "national exemplary higher vocational colleges". In 2012, it began to pilot four-year higher vocational undergraduate education to cultivate technical and skilled talents at the undergraduate level. In 2018, it was selected as an excellent higher vocational college construction unit in Jiangsu Province. In 2019, it was selected as a national "double high" A-level construction college. In 2024, it ranked first in the country in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of higher vocational colleges. In 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, it won the first place in the comprehensive assessment of high-level higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province for five consecutive years. The school currently has two campuses, Zhongqiao and Taihu. The school covers an area of more than 850 acres, with a construction area of 398,000 square meters; the total assets are 1.795 billion yuan, of which the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 4.5.7 billion yuan, and the library has a collection of more than 1.5 million books. At present, there are 16 teaching units including the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Control Engineering, the School of Internet of Things Engineering, the School of Automotive and Transportation Engineering, the School of Integrated Circuits, the School of Management, the School of Finance and Economics, the School of Culture and Tourism, the School of Design and Art, the Basic Course Teaching Department, the School of Marxism, the Department of Physical Education, the Department of Public Foreign Languages, the Open Source Innovation and Entrepreneurship College, the International Education College, and the Irish College. It has co-built 8 industrial colleges with companies such as Schneider and Siemens. At present, there are more than 14,400 full-time undergraduate and international students and more than 1,000 faculty and staff. The school adheres to the school motto of "rigorous scholarship and advocating practice" and is committed to building a high-level "dual-teacher" structural professional teaching team. Among the full-time teachers, there are more than 70 professors and more than 160 doctors. Among them, there are 2 national famous teachers, 5 provincial famous teachers, 4 second-level professors, 2 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 6 national teaching teams, 9 provincial "Qinglan Project" science and technology innovation teams, and high-level experts and scholars such as Academician Yao Jianquan and great craftsmen and skill masters such as Gu Qiuliang and Huang Cheng are employed as part-time professors. At present, there are 54 majors that are adapted to equipment manufacturing and emerging industries, including 6 undergraduate majors. It has 2 high-level professional groups with Chinese characteristics, 2 pilot majors for educational reform of the Ministry of Education, 4 first-batch national demonstration majors, 2 key construction majors supported by the central government, and 2 modern apprenticeship majors of the Ministry of Education; 4 provincial key construction professional groups, 2 provincial university brand majors, 5 provincial high-level backbone majors, 8 provincial brand and characteristic majors, and 3 national machinery industry brand and characteristic majors. The school presided over the construction of two national professional teaching resource libraries for numerical control technology and Internet of Things technology, and has 1 national excellent teaching material special award, 1 course ideological and political demonstration course, 13 national quality courses, 13 national quality resource sharing courses, 6 national online quality courses, and 58 national planning textbooks. The school presided over the first prize of 3 national teaching achievements, 4 second prizes, 4 provincial teaching achievement special prizes, and nearly 20 first and second prizes. In 2021, CCTV1's "News Network" reported on the school's successful experience in building a professional cluster of intelligent manufacturing and enabling industrial development. The school also hosts the national vocational education journal "Mechanical Vocational Education" and the academic journal "Journal of Wuxi Vocational and Technical College". The school focuses on the cultivation of practical ability of applied talents and has built a "multi-functional, open and shared" practical teaching base on campus. At present, there are 1 National Development and Reform Commission "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" Industry-Education Integration Development Project Planning Project, 1 "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" Education Power Project, 2 national training bases, 1 national demonstration virtual simulation training base, 5 provincial training bases, 2 provincial higher vocational education industry-education deep integration training platform projects, 2 provincial demonstration virtual simulation training bases, 4 basic experimental centers, 8 professional training centers, and "National Vocational Skills Appraisal Institute" and "Jiangsu Mechanical Vocational and Technical Education Center". 63 types of occupations have been opened for vocational skills training and appraisal, so that the acquisition rate of students' academic certificates and vocational skills certificates has reached more than 95%. More than 200 internship bases have been established outside the school, of which more than 100 enterprises have become the school's "work-learning combination" internship bases. The school focuses on improving the comprehensive quality of students. Since 2011, it has taken the lead in exploring the construction of a cultural quality education system among similar colleges and universities in the country, offering nearly 100 cultural quality education courses each year and building more than 20 cultural quality boutique courses; more than 30 quality education practice bases have been established outside the school to actively cultivate students' professional ability and innovation ability. Students have won many awards in various competitions. In recent years, more than 3,000 people have won awards in various competitions at the provincial level and above, including 27 first prizes in the National Vocational School Skills Competition; 4 special prizes in the "Challenge Cup-Rainbow Life" National Vocational School Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Competition; 154 outstanding graduation design (thesis) awards for undergraduates and junior colleges in the province, including 31 first prizes and 33 outstanding teams. The number and level of awards have ranked first among Jiangsu higher vocational colleges for many years. At the same time, the school wholeheartedly serves the growth and development of students, promotes the construction of a one-stop student community, and establishes and improves a student aid system including scholarships, work-study programs, corporate scholarships, special hardship subsidies and tuition waivers. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has remained above 96%. The school has been rated as the "Jiangsu Province University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base" and the "Jiangsu Province University Student Career Education Base", and has been awarded the "Jiangsu Province University Graduate Employment Quantitative Supervision A" for many consecutive years. The school actively serves the local economic construction and continuously improves its scientific research level. Every year, it trains 140,000 people for the society and enterprises, and completes more than 200 technical service projects for small and medium-sized enterprises. Teachers and students have more than 2,600 valid patents in stock, and more than 300 patents have been converted. Among them, the National Mechanical Industry Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Vocational Education Group was listed as the first batch of national demonstration vocational education groups. The school has taken the lead in establishing the Wuxi Intelligent Manufacturing and Internet of Things Municipal Industry-Education Consortium, the National Cloud Intelligence and Internet of Things Industry-Education Integration Community, and the National Machinery Industry Industrial Software and Digital Manufacturing Industry-Education Integration Community. The school has been constantly pioneering and advancing on the road of internationalization of higher vocational education. In 2004, it became the first Chinese member unit of the Community College International Development Alliance (CCID) headquartered in the United States. In 2012, CCID established a Chinese branch center at the school. In recent years, the school has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 50 colleges and universities in more than 20 countries including the United States, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Denmark, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school has successively held 8 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. In 2018, the Jiangsu Provincial Government approved the establishment of the first non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperative education institution-Wuxi Vocational and Technical College Ireland College after filing with the Ministry of Education. The school's Sino-US, Sino-Danish and Sino-Australian cooperative education projects were successfully selected by the Provincial Department of Education for 2016, 2017, and 2018 Sino-foreign cooperative education high-level demonstration construction projects. In 2021 and 2022, the school's CNC technology major and industrial robot technology major were selected as brand majors for international talent training in Jiangsu Province's "14th Five-Year Plan". In 2014, the school started education for international students in China, recruiting more than 2,232 international students from more than 60 countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, etc. In 2023, the school passed the first batch of higher vocational education quality certification for international students in China by the Ministry of Education. The school is one of the first pilot institutions of the Ministry of Education's "Future Africa-China-Africa Vocational Education Cooperation Plan". It has successively cooperated with the University of Management and Technology of Malaysia, Trishakdi Education Group of Indonesia, and Shenshawan Education Group of Laos to build 3 overseas branches or language centers, carry out in-depth "Chinese + Vocational Skills" training, and provide high-quality services for the "Belt and Road" initiative.
