China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a national "211 Project", a "985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform Project", a "double first-class" construction university, and one of the first batch of industrial technology innovation strategic alliance universities in the country. The Ministry of Education and the former State Administration of Work Safety jointly established colleges and universities. In 1960 and 1978, the school was twice identified as a national key university. It was one of the first universities in the country with the right to award doctoral and master's degrees. It has a graduate school and 13 colleges. The school has two campuses: Xueyuan Road campus is located on Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, where universities are gathered in Beijing, and Shahe campus is located in Shahe Higher Education Park, Changping, Beijing. The two campuses cover an area of 518 acres. There are currently more than 18,000 students on campus, including more than 8,700 undergraduates, more than 7,800 master's students, and more than 1,800 doctoral students. The school’s predecessor was the Jiaozuo Road and Mine School founded in 1909. In 1931, it was renamed the Private Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. In 1938, the school moved westward and jointly formed the National Northwest Institute of Technology with the engineering schools of Northeastern University, Beiyang University, and Peking University. In 1946, Jiaozuo Institute of Technology was reopened and moved back to Jiaozuo in 1949. In 1950, the school moved to Tianjin and was renamed China Institute of Mining and Technology. During the adjustment of departments in 1952, the mining departments of Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, and Tangshan Railway Institute were adjusted to the China Institute of Mining and Technology. As a result, the school gathered the country's first-class mining science and technology talents. In 1953, the school moved to Beijing and was renamed Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology. In 1970, the school moved to Hechuan, Sichuan and was renamed Sichuan Mining Institute. In 1978, the school was rebuilt in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, and its name was restored as China Institute of Mining. At the same time, the Beijing Graduate Department of China Institute of Mining was established at the original site of Xueyuan Road, Beijing. In 1988, it was renamed Beijing Graduate School of China University of Mining and Technology. In 1997, it was renamed China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing Campus). In 2000, the school was transferred to the direct management of the Ministry of Education. In 2003, with the approval of the central establishment department, it was independently run as "China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing)". In 1997, the school was identified as a key construction university of the national “211 Project”. In 2006, it became a construction university of the “985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform Project”. In 2017, it became a world-class discipline construction university. In 2022, it was selected into the new round of “double first-class” construction. colleges and universities. At present, the school's two disciplines of Mining Engineering and Safety Science and Engineering are included in the national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines, and the two disciplines of Urban Engineering Geophysics and Urban Underground Space Engineering are included in the list of high-precision and advanced disciplines in Beijing universities. The school has achieved excellent results in multiple subject evaluations by the Ministry of Education. Eight disciplines have entered the top 1% of ESI rankings, among which engineering and earth science disciplines have entered the top 1‰ of ESI rankings. The school focuses on the country’s energy science and technology needs and has achieved a large number of high-level innovative scientific research results. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it developed China's first coal plow and mining robot, designed China's first air jig, the first heavy media coal preparation workshop, and built China's first dry coal preparation plant. Plant, the first industrial underground gasification base, produced the internationally important "masonry beam" and scientific mining theory, fractal rock mechanics theory, high-resolution three-dimensional three-component seismic detection technology system for coal mines, and large rock mass deformation Theory, theory and method of prediction and forecasting of major water damage in mines, theory and technology of top coal mining, etc., and has made many major technological breakthroughs in the fields of underground coal gasification, fine coal-water slurry, and coal-to-liquids. In the past 10 years, it has completed more than 1,500 important projects related to coal science and technology, hosted 63 major national projects such as the National Key Research and Development Plan, and was approved for 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China innovative research group projects. It has won a total of 20 national science and technology awards and 608 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. The school has 2 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering research center, 2 Ministry of Education engineering research centers, 3 Ministry of Emergency Management key laboratories, and 2 Beijing key laboratories. The school currently has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 "National Outstanding Engineer Team", and 2 "National University Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams". After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he trained the first academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the first master's degree and doctorate in my country's coal system, and compiled my country's first mathematical reference book "Mathematics Handbook". 8 doctoral theses have been selected into the National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Dissertations. The further education rate of undergraduate graduates has remained above 55% for many years. The school currently has 1 national-level experimental teaching demonstration center, 2 national-level engineering practice education centers, and 3 pilot virtual teaching and research sections of the Ministry of Education. 19 majors were selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 10 majors were selected as Beijing first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 2 majors were selected as key first-class majors in Beijing universities, and 83% of the majors were selected as national and Beijing first-class majors.
