(1) Historical evolution The predecessor of Naval Engineering University was the Mechanical Department of Dalian Naval School, which was established in November 1949 with the personal approval of Chairman Mao. The first president was the then Navy Commander, General Xiao Jinguang. It began to operate independently in 1954 and was renamed the Naval Mechanical School. It was the first formal naval military higher education institution after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Naval Engineering College was established in 1960. In 1962, it took over some majors from the Naval Engineering Department of the former Harbin Military Engineering College. In 1963, it was identified as a national key university. In 1969, it moved from Dalian to Wuhan. In 1999, it merged with the former Naval Electronic Engineering College to form the Naval Engineering College. The university has been identified as one of the five comprehensive universities in the military. In July 2017, with the personal approval of President Xi, the newly restructured Naval Engineering University was established. In 2018, it was identified as a key construction institution for the entire military. The school adheres to undergraduate education and postgraduate education as the main body, and combines academic education with job training. The Navy’s first undergraduate major, first master’s program, doctoral program, postdoctoral research station and national key disciplines all come from the school. The school is a multi-disciplinary, multi-level naval institution of higher learning that combines engineering and management, technology and command. It is a well-known professional higher education institution for multiple branches of the military and an important teaching and research base for the military. (2) Discipline majors After more than 70 years of construction, the school has formed a comprehensive disciplinary environment that focuses on engineering and coordinates the development of engineering, science, management, and military science. At present, the school has 2 national key disciplines, 2 national key laboratories, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 national energy new energy access equipment research and development (experimental) center. As a key military institution, the school has 6 key military disciplines, 6 key military laboratories, 7 postdoctoral research stations, 7 doctoral first-level disciplines, 5 first-level master's degree academic degree authorization points and 7 There are 3 professional master's degree categories and 34 undergraduate majors, covering most of the navy's professional fields. The school is responsible for nearly one-third of the navy’s undergraduate education and nearly half of its postgraduate education, and has trained more than 100,000 high-quality military talents for the navy. It has produced nearly a hundred generals of the Republic and six academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It is known as the “Naval Officer 's cradle". The school has 7 papers that have been rated as national outstanding doctoral thesis, 5 papers have won the National Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Nomination Award, and 104 papers have been rated as outstanding doctoral thesis in the military, navy and Hubei Province. (3) Faculty The school adheres to the principle of teaching teachers as the basis of running a school, respecting teachers and teaching, being democratic and open, and stimulating innovation. It has a team of outstanding young and middle-aged people with academicians and famous teachers as the leaders and subject leaders as the backbone. The school has a reasonable academic structure and a teaching staff with excellent political, military and professional qualities. There are more than 600 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for more than 50% of the total number of teachers in the school. More than 95% of them have a master's degree or above, and more than 70% have a doctoral degree.
