The predecessor of Sichuan Conservatory of Music was the "Sichuan Provincial Experimental School of Drama and Music" founded in 1939. It was renamed in 1959 and became one of the six professional music colleges with undergraduate education in China at that time. The school has three campuses in Wuhou, Xindu and Linkong Economic Zone, with a total area of more than 1,500 acres, 24 teaching departments and 10 research institutions. The school covers graduate education, undergraduate education, adult education and secondary art education, with a student population of more than 14,000. It is one of the eleven independent professional music colleges in the country. The school takes music and dance as the main body, and the multi-disciplinary comprehensive and coordinated development of art theory, drama and film, fine arts, and design. There are currently three first-level master's degree authorization points in music and dance, fine arts, and art theory, and two professional degree authorization points for master of arts and master of education. In 2013, it was approved as the Sichuan Postdoctoral Innovation and Practice Base. The school has 6 national first-class undergraduate majors in music performance, composition and composition technology theory, recording art, musicology, dance, and drama and film art design, 6 provincial first-class undergraduate majors in painting, product design, art history and theory, environmental design, sculpture, and digital media art, and 3 provincial applied demonstration majors in recording art, environmental design, and product design; there is 1 national first-class course, 40 provincial first-class courses and demonstration courses. The school currently has 486 professional and technical personnel at or above the associate senior level, including: 7 second-level professors, 12 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 1 ministerial expert, 8 academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 6 outstanding experts with outstanding contributions in Sichuan Province, 3 famous teachers in Sichuan Province, 3 famous teachers in Sichuan Province, 2 people in Sichuan Province's "Tianfu Ten Thousand People Plan", and 1 Sichuan Province "Four Haves" good teacher. The school has won 1 second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 national invention award, 25 provincial teaching achievement awards, 26 provincial philosophy and social science awards, 35 "China Music Golden Bell Awards", and more than 40 invention patents. In the past five years, teachers and students of the school have won more than 470 awards in international and domestic competitions and awards with great influence. More than 60 national and ministerial scientific research projects have been approved. More than 100 books of various types have been published, and more than 1,600 academic papers have been published. The school has a number of provincial key academic research platforms such as the "Sichuan Conservatory of Music Chinese Traditional Music Research Institute", "Sichuan Key Laboratory of Digital Media Art", "Southwest Music Research Center", "Music Digital Intelligence Laboratory", and "Sichuan Music Art Popularization Base". The journal "Music Exploration" is an excellent social science journal in colleges and universities across the country. The school adheres to the policy of open education, actively expands foreign exchanges and cooperation, attaches importance to international academic and cultural exchanges, actively spreads Chinese culture, organizes various international exchange activities at all levels, and participates in foreign affairs activities of the state and the provincial party committee and government. The school has established cooperative relations with more than 50 overseas universities in more than 10 countries, and has selected and sent students to study abroad, pursue degrees or participate in various overseas exchange programs. The school began to recruit international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in 2003.
