Basic information

Established on June 17, 1993 as the University Centre of North Kivu (CUNK), and officially became the University of Goma by ministerial decree on October 15, 2005.

History

In 1993, the Zairean government led by Mobutu Sese Seko established the University Centre of North Kivu (CUNK) through Ministerial Decision No. ESU/CAB MIN/066/93.

In 1996, it became the Branch of the University of Goma (CU EG).

In 2005, it was officially upgraded to the University of Goma by Ministerial Decree No. 055/MINE SU/CAB MIN/RS/2005, marking its increased autonomy and importance in the field of higher education.

The central campus is located on the site of the former boarding school of Goma College; the lakeside campus is located near the Lake Kivu Hotel; and the hospital campus is located in the Goma General Hospital building. The teaching facilities and living facilities are relatively complete, which can meet the basic learning and living needs of students.
