Overview

Nagasaki University (Nagasaki University, Japanese: Nagasaki University, abbreviated as: Nagasaki/ながさきだいがく) is a national university located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. It was founded in 1857. Its history can be traced back to 1857 when Dutch military doctor Pompe van Medelfo began to teach Dutch medicine to 12 people including the shogunate doctor Matsumoto Ryojun, laying the foundation for the creation of Nagasaki University. In 1949, it was merged by Nagasaki Medical University, Nagasaki Medical University Attached Pharmacy Department, Nagasaki Economic College (Nagasaki Higher Commercial School before World War II), Nagasaki Normal School, Nagasaki Youth Normal School, and Nagasaki Higher School. Nagasaki University is a member of Japan's International Talent University Program (Type B), Excellent Graduate School Program, SixERS Japan National Six University Cooperation Alliance, Japan Marine Innovation Alliance, Asian Campus, and JANET.
