Overview
Osaka University (Osaka University, Japanese: Osaka University, abbreviated as: Handa / はんだい) is a national research university located in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, founded in 1931. Its history can be traced back to the Dutch school established by Ogata Koan in 1838 - Tekujuku. In 1931, the medical department and the science department of the former Osaka Medical University formed Osaka Imperial University, becoming the sixth former imperial university in Japan. After World War II, the school was officially renamed Osaka University, and successively integrated Osaka High School, Naniwa High School, and Osaka Pharmaceutical College. In 2007, Osaka University of Foreign Studies merged into its Foreign Languages Department. Osaka University is a former imperial university and a designated national university in Japan. It has been selected for the Super International University Program Class A, the World Top Scientific Research Center Program, the Excellent Graduate School Program, the Leading Graduate School Program, and the Research University Strengthening Promotion Project.
