Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University is a well-known public research university in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, and one of the oldest higher education institutions in western Ukraine.

History and establishment time

The school's history can be traced back to the Stanislav Teacher Training College, which was established on March 15, 1940. In 1950, it was renamed Stanislav (since 1962, Ivano-Frankivsk) Teacher Training College. In January 1971, according to the decree of the USSR Council of Ministers, the college was renamed after the famous Ukrainian writer Vasily Stefanyk. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the Precarpathian University was established on August 26, 1992 in Ivano-Frankivsk. Founded on the basis of the Frankivsk State Teachers College, the university was granted national status in 1994.

Key disciplines: It covers a variety of disciplines, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, linguistics, history, economics, education, psychology, etc., among which mathematics is more prominent. The journal "Carpathian Mathematical Publications" published by it is an internationally excellent journal with high academic influence. It is included in SCIE and is classified as Q1 in JCR in 2023-2024.

Key laboratories: The school has a joint educational and scientific laboratory for magnetic tape physics jointly operated with the Institute of Metal Physics named after G. V. Kurdyumov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
