The school's history can be traced back to the "Lyzeum" Royal Higher Education Institution established in 1846. In 1959, the Johannes Kepler Institute of Technology was established, adding majors such as electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. In 1971, the University of Applied Sciences Regensburg was officially established.
