Introduction

The University of Economics in Katowice is located in Katowice, Silesian Province in southern Poland. It is a long-standing and influential higher economics school. Its predecessor was the private school of social and economic sciences established in 1937.

History and establishment time

The school was approved by the decree of the Polish Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education in December 1936. On January 11, 1937, it began to enroll students and teach at the School of Industrial Organization, which was the only school at the time. The School of Public Administration was opened in 1938. The school was closed in September 1939 due to the war, but resumed teaching in February 1945, expanding the field of economics education and increasing the number of teaching staff. In the 1970s and 1980s, the school built a series of new buildings around the original buildings to form a campus. In 1950, the school was nationalized and transformed into the School of Economics, and in 2010 it was officially renamed the University of Economics in Katowice.
