Introduction
The University of Lagos is a public research university located in Lagos, Nigeria. It was founded in 1962 and is one of the first five universities established in Nigeria. It is known as the "first generation university" and has the reputation of "national pride".
Overview
Student size: There are currently more than 57,000 students on campus, and more than 9,000 undergraduate students are enrolled each year.
Campus distribution: There are three campuses, the main campus is located in Akoka, the medical school campus is located in Idi-Araba, and there is a new campus located at the site of the former School of Radiology.
Faculty: In 2017, there were 1,736 academic staff and 552 administrative staff.
History
In order to meet the needs of industrialization and economic development, the Nigerian federal government established the Eric Ashby Commission in May 1959, and its report recommended the establishment of a new university in Lagos. In 1961, the federal government submitted the detailed plan of the new university to the UNESCO Advisory Committee, which recommended the traditional university model. On October 22, 1962, the University of Lagos was officially established.

Research Achievements: It has achieved a series of important research results in the fields of medicine, natural sciences, social sciences, etc. It is one of the best universities in Nigeria in 2008 selected by the Nigerian National University Commission.
International Exchange: It has cooperated with Beijing Institute of Technology to open the Confucius Institute at the University of Lagos, and was selected into the "China-Africa University 20+20 Cooperation Plan" of the Ministry of Education of China with Soochow University. It has also established the Nigeria-China Development Research Institute at the University of Lagos to actively carry out international cooperation and exchanges.
