Introduction: Mogadishu University is a private university in Somalia. It was established in 1997 and its main campus is located in Mogadishu, Somalia.
History:
In June 1997, preparations for the establishment of an educational institution began. In September of the same year, it opened as a non-governmental, non-profit institution of higher learning. In the early days, there were only 6 professors and 200 students. It was located in a private residence in southern Mogadishu. However, due to the outbreak of civil war, the school's property was looted and activities were suspended.
It was later moved to the abandoned school building of Mohammed Ahmed Ali, but was occupied and looted again by local militias.
In the 2005-2006 academic year, with the help of donors, a new campus was built in Yashid and moved here.
School Strength
Student Size: From the initial 200 students, it has grown into one of the larger universities in Somalia and East Africa.
Faculty: Although there is no exact data, from the 6 professors at the time of its establishment, it has now developed a professional teaching team.
International Exchange: Bilateral relations have been established with many international universities such as Aalborg University in Denmark, University of Tromsø in Norway, University of Kansas in the United States, Sana'a University in Yemen, and Open University of Malaysia.
