History: In 1975, it was founded in Wad Madani by Abdulrahim Mahmoud, the former mayor and later governor, with the support of then Sudanese President Jafar Nimeiry. The school was small in its early days, with only a few colleges, but later it gradually grew and became an important higher education institution in Sudan.

Teaching Staff: There are 897 faculty members.
Student Size: The total number of students is 26,699, including 18,221 undergraduates, 3,350 technical diploma students, 3,622 postgraduates, and 2,401 international students.
Disciplines and Research Institutions: There are 17 faculties and 9 research institutes covering a wide range of scientific and humanities disciplines. Each college and institute has established a special research and training center.
Educational philosophy: Linking education with development needs to make it more in line with the needs of humans and the environment, focusing on studying Sudan's environment, especially the rural environment, identifying problems and conducting research to cultivate professionals who can take advantage of Sudan's rural areas, conduct basic and applied scientific research, and serve rural communities.

Key laboratories: There are research institutions such as the National Cancer Institute, the National Oilseed Processing and Research Institute, the Water Management and Irrigation Research Institute, the Nuclear Medicine, Molecular Biology and Oncology Institute, and the Blue Nile Research and Training Institute.
Key disciplines: The Textile College is closely integrated with the local textile industry and has trained a large number of professional talents; the College of Agricultural Sciences relies on the local agricultural advantages and has achieved remarkable results in agricultural technology research and development and promotion; the Medical College has trained many medical professionals for Sudan and plays an important role in medical education and medical services.

Faculties: There are College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Economics and Rural Development, College of Textiles, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Applied Medicine, College of Medical Laboratory Sciences, College of Dentistry, College of Mathematics and Computer Science, etc.
Campus: There are nine campuses in Gezira State and one campus in the Northern State. Including Neshahiba University City, Elaz Campus, Khantob Campus, etc.
