Introduction

The University of Rwanda is the largest university in Rwanda, with its main campus located in the capital, Kigali. It is a public research university that offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

History and establishment time

In 2013, the University of Rwanda was formed by the merger of seven institutions: the National University of Rwanda, the Kigali Institute of Technology, the Kigali Institute of Education, the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Livestock, the Institute of Finance and Banking, the Umtala Higher Polytechnic, and the Kigali Institute of Health.

School Strength

Faculty: There are 1,450 academic staff, some of whom have deep research accumulation in the fields of agriculture, renewable energy and medicine.

Research Results: Contributions to the research in agriculture, renewable energy and medicine have been internationally recognized, and some research results have been applied to national development projects.

Cooperation and Exchange: As a member of the East African Community (EAC), it has established extensive partnerships with top universities and research institutions in and outside the region.

Key Laboratories and Disciplines

Key Laboratories: It has four African Centers of Excellence established by the World Bank.

Advantageous Disciplines: The disciplines of medicine and health sciences, science and technology, and agriculture are strong, and many important research has been carried out in related fields, which has played an important role in the social development and economic construction of Rwanda.

Including the School of Science and Technology, the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Business and Economics, the School of Social Sciences, etc.

Ranking

It once ranked 6th among universities in sub-Saharan Africa.

In the ranking of all Africa, it is tied with the University of Seychelles and Sudan University of Science and Technology.

Fees

Confucius Institute: Registration fee is free for students and faculty of the University of Rwanda, and the registration fee for others is 30,000 Rwandan francs.

Other projects: There is no detailed information on undergraduate and graduate tuition fees, but there are reports that the school has a full scholarship program.

Campus environment

There are 14 campuses in total, distributed across the country. The campus environment is beautiful, such as the Huye campus with towering trees, green grass, and groups of monkeys.

Each campus provides students with sports facilities including football fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts, handball courts, etc.

The library is the largest academic library in Rwanda, providing support for teaching, learning, research and innovation.
