Introduction
Kigali Independent University is an institution of higher learning located in Kigali, Rwanda. Its French name is Université Libre de Kigali, abbreviated as ULK, and its motto is "Science and Conscience".
Overview
Students and Faculty: As of 2024, there are 41,415 graduates, 211 teaching staff, and 2,882 students have received financial assistance.
Course Setting: Bachelor's and Master's degree programs are offered, covering economics and business, social sciences, technology, law, education and other fields.
Campus Distribution: The main campus is located in Gisozi District, Kigali, and there is also a campus in Gisenyi.
History
Founded on March 15, 1996, after the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
Initially, teaching activities were carried out in the Sao Paulo building, and then the first campus was established in Kaziru. In 2007, all administrative and teaching activities of the Kigali campus were moved to the new campus in Gisozi.
In 2009, the university adopted English as the only teaching language.
School Strength
Teaching Facilities: In the 2012-2013 academic year, the school library added 3,520 physical books, a total of 66,200 physical books, and the digital library has 500 new computers. The campus also has a large stadium that can accommodate 14,000 people, 6 generators and 22 vehicles.
