Introduction: The University of the Western Cape is a public university located in the suburb of Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa. History and establishment time: In 1959, the South African Parliament legislated to establish the University College of the Western Cape as a component college of the University of South Africa, specifically for "colored people". In 1960, the first batch of 166 students enrolled. In 1970, the college was awarded university status and was able to award its own degrees and diplomas.
