History and establishment

The origins of the school can be traced back to 1921, when the first higher education institution was established in Kremenchug, with instruction in the Ukrainian language, and its legal status was equivalent to that of a college, and it was considered a higher education institution.

In 1925, the courses were reorganized into the Kremenchug Teacher Training College, with daytime and evening courses, including three departments: pre-school education, school education, and communist education, preparing future kindergarten teachers, primary school teachers, and Young Pioneers counselors.

In September 1930, by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of Ukraine, the Kremenchug Social Educational College was opened on the same basis, at that time there was only the school department, consisting of four departments: agricultural biology, language and literature, technical mathematics, and history and economy, and students could take full-time, correspondence, and evening courses.

In March 1939, the Kremenchug Teacher Training College was reorganized. In September 1940, the college had 942 full-time and correspondence students, of whom 208 were first-year students of the Teachers' College, and more than 100 teachers, including 2 professors.

Higher education was interrupted during World War II and was not restored in the city until 1960, with the establishment of the General Technology Department of the Poltava Agricultural Construction Engineers College.

In 1972, the department was affiliated to the Kharkiv Highway Institute, and by 1974, the number of students increased by 2.5 times, the teaching staff increased by two times, and the Kremenchug General Technology Department was transformed into the Kremenchug Branch of the Kharkiv National Polytechnic Institute.

On August 21, 1997, the Ukrainian Cabinet passed a resolution to establish the Kremenchug National Polytechnic Institute, which consists of the Kremenchug Branch of the Kharkiv National Polytechnic Institute, the Kremenchug Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and the Kremenchug Automotive Institute.

In 2001, the school received the title of "University of the XXI Century" The university was nominated for the "Quality of the Third Millennium" award in the "Golden Fortune" international ranking of academic reputation and quality in the same year.

In November 2002, in accordance with the Ukrainian Law on Higher Education, the election of a new rector was held, and Myhaylo Zagiel Niak was elected as the rector.

On April 21, 2006 On the same day, the National Accreditation Committee reviewed all submitted documents and expert opinions. In view of the high standards and rapid development of the school, Kremenchug National Polytechnic University was awarded Level 4 accreditation.
