Introduction

During World War II, the school was evacuated to Omsk, and after the war returned to Luhansk and was rebuilt almost from scratch. In 1960, after several reorganizations, it became the Luhansk Institute of Mechanical Engineering. On May 8, 1993, by the decision of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, the National University of East Ukraine was established on the basis of the Luhansk Institute of Mechanical Engineering and several other educational institutions in Luhansk and Luhansk Oblast. In 2000, the school was awarded the title of "national", and in 2001 it was named after Volodymyr Dahl, a famous Ukrainian writer and linguist.
