Introduction

National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine is one of the oldest higher metallurgical education institutions in Ukraine. It is based on metallurgical engineering education and covers education and research in many related fields such as computers, machinery, economic management, etc. It is committed to cultivating professionals in metallurgy and related industries.

Overview

Student size: The academy currently has about 15,000 students.

Number of faculty and staff: It has more than 1,000 faculty and staff, including 2 Ukrainian academicians, 25 Ukrainian scientists and 16 national award winners.

History

In October 1899, the academy was established as a department of the Ekaterinoslav Higher Mining School.

In 1912, the department was transformed into the Metallurgical Department of the Ekaterinoslav Mining School.

In 1930, it obtained the status of an independent higher education institution and was renamed the Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Academy.

In 1993, the Ukrainian Cabinet resolution granted it the status of the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine.

1999 In 1899, the President of Ukraine issued a decree to designate it as the National Institute of Metallurgy of Ukraine.

Key disciplines: Ferrous metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy, special metals, metal pressure treatment, metal heat treatment, metallurgical equipment, mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, computer science and technology, automation, economic management and other disciplines are the key disciplines of the college, among which metallurgical engineering related disciplines are in a leading position in Ukraine.

Key laboratories: The college has several key laboratories, such as the metallurgical process physical chemistry laboratory, the metal material performance testing laboratory, the computer control system laboratory, etc. These laboratories provide important support for the development of scientific research projects and students' practical teaching, and help promote the development and innovation of disciplines.

Departments

The college has the following departments:

Department of Computer Systems, Power Industry and Automation: Founded in December 2003, it has undergone two reorganizations in 2007 and 2015, and the number of students ranks first among all departments.

Department of Metallurgy: Carry out education, teaching methods, science and education work in related majors, covering multiple professional directions of metallurgy, such as iron and steel metallurgy, cast iron metallurgy, physical and chemical research of metallurgical processes, etc.

Department of Electrometallurgy: Provide teaching and scientific research support by a high-quality teaching team, train about 400 students, majors include ferrous metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy, special metallurgy, etc., and have established cooperative relations with universities in many countries.

Department of Physical Metallurgy and Metal Treatment: Focus on the research of physical properties of metal materials and the teaching and research of metal processing technology.

Department of Mechanical Engineering: Dedicated to education and scientific research in the field of mechanical engineering, cultivating professional talents in mechanical design, manufacturing, automation, etc.

Department of Economics and Management: Open related majors such as economics and management, and cultivate economic management talents for metallurgy and other industries.

Department of Humanities: Provide educational courses in humanities and social sciences to cultivate students' humanistic literacy and comprehensive qualities.
