The University of Kalemie was originally a branch of the University of Lubumbashi, named Centre Universitaire de Kalemie. On September 27, 2010, according to Ministerial Decree No. 157/MINE SU/CAB MIN/E BK/PK/2010, the Centre Universitaire de Kalemie became an independent University of Kalemie.
