Hokkaido University (Hokkaido University, Japanese: Hokkaido University, abbreviated as: Hokkaido University/ほくだい) is a national university located in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. It was founded in 1876. Its predecessor was Sapporo Agricultural School, one of the earliest higher education institutions in Japan. In 1918, Sapporo Agricultural School was renamed Hokkaido Imperial University, becoming the fourth imperial university established in Japan. In 1947, Hokkaido Imperial University was officially renamed Hokkaido University. The school is a top-level A-level school in Japan's "Super International University Plan" and one of the seven old imperial universities in Japan.
