Introduction and Overview
Plovdiv Medical University is one of the famous medical schools in Bulgaria. It is located in Plovdiv, the second largest city in Bulgaria, and offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees.
History and Establishment
The school was established in 1945 as the Department of Medicine of Plovdiv University. In 1950, the department became the independent Plovdiv Academy of Medical Sciences. In 1972, it was renamed Plovdiv Higher Medical College. In 1974, the Department of Dental Medicine was established. In 1997, a medical college affiliated to the medical school was established. In 2002, it was renamed Plovdiv Medical University by the decision of the Bulgarian National Assembly.
School Strength
Faculty: It has 692 academic staff members. The teaching team is composed of medical experts from Bulgaria, Germany, the Netherlands, the United States and other countries. They not only have rich practical experience, but also have strong scientific research capabilities.
Research achievements: A number of research projects have been carried out in the fields of basic medicine, infectious diseases, cardiovascular disease, oncology, neuroscience, etc., and a number of scientific research centers have been established, such as the Stem Cell and Molecular Biology Center, Clinical Research Center and Traditional Chinese Medicine Research Center.
