Introduction and Overview
The University of Plovdiv, full name Paisi Hirondarski University of Plovdiv, is the largest institution of higher education in southern Bulgaria and the third largest university in the country. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in a variety of fields including natural sciences, humanities, social sciences and economics.
History and Establishment
The history of the university dates back to 1945, when the University of Plovdiv was established by the decree of the Regent Council on August 4, initially with two faculties: medicine and agriculture and forestry. In 1961, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry was reorganized into the Higher Normal College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. In 1972, the college was promoted to university status by government decree and renamed "Paisi Hirondarski" University of Plovdiv.

Faculty: It has 561 academic staff, including 34 full professors, 167 associate professors and 360 assistant professors.
Scientific research achievements: It is the center of modern science. The professors' contributions to scientific research are recognized through hundreds of successfully defended doctoral dissertations and dozens of research projects with domestic and foreign partners.
