Introduction and Overview
Located in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, New Bulgarian University is the first private university in Bulgaria. The school offers courses covering a wide range of fields including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and arts, and has more than 12,000 teachers and students.
History and Establishment
In July 1989, a group of higher education scholars and researchers established the New Bulgarian University Association, aiming to innovate the Bulgarian higher education system. On September 18, 1991, the Bulgarian Parliament passed a resolution granting the association university status and formally established the New Bulgarian University.

Key laboratories: It has the Central and Eastern European Cognitive Science Center, which is jointly directed by Boi Cho Kokinov and Jeff Elman. It conducts basic and applied cognitive science research, including memory, thinking, language, learning, perception, robotics, artificial intelligence, and the application of cognitive systems. It also awards master's and doctoral degrees in cognitive science and organizes summer schools every year.
Key disciplines: IT and management majors rank high in Bulgaria. In addition, anthropology, cognitive science and psychology, economics and business administration, foreign language education, and art also have certain advantages and characteristics.
