The school was established in 1964 as a teaching and tutoring station of the Higher School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Sofia, and became a Higher Technical Correspondence College in the same year. On July 21, 1995, it was officially upgraded to a university by a resolution passed by the Bulgarian National Assembly.
