University College London (UCL), located in London, England, is a public research university and the first university established in London. The school is a member of the Russell Group and the European Research University Alliance, and is known as one of the famous schools in the Golden Triangle. UCL was officially established on February 11, 1826. It was formerly known as the University of London. Because it did not obtain a royal charter, it was originally established as a joint-stock company. On November 28, 1836, the school obtained a royal charter and was renamed University College London. On the same day, a new University of London was established and had the right to award degrees in medicine, art and law to students of the school. In 1907, the school was merged into the University of London in accordance with the University College London (Transfer) Act 1905 and renamed University College London. It was subsequently separated from the University of London on December 9, 1977 and reorganized as University College London in accordance with the University College London Act 1979. In 2005, UCL obtained the power to award independent degrees and no longer used the name of the University of London. In the 2022-2023 academic year, UCL has a total of 51,058 students, including 25,121 undergraduates, 19,745 taught postgraduates, and 6,192 research postgraduates. About 49.8% of the students come from outside the UK. As of 2024, the school consists of Bloomsbury Campus, East Campus and Other Campuses. In terms of institutional settings, it consists of 11 colleges, including the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Brain Sciences, and the School of Built Environment. The school offers 430 undergraduate courses and 720 postgraduate courses [44]. Among the school's faculty are 28 Fellows of the Royal Society of London, 166 Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. In addition, among the school's alumni and teachers are 30 Nobel Prize winners and 3 Fields Medal winners.
