The University of Cambridge, referred to as "Cambridge", is a top research university located in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, using the traditional college system. The school is a member of the Russell Group, the Global University Presidents Forum, the Global University Advanced Research Institute Alliance, the International Applied Science and Technology Development Cooperation Network, and the Cambridge University Medical Partner Alliance. It has nurtured the "Silicon Fen", a gathering place for science and technology, and is known as the "Golden Triangle Famous School" and the "G5 University".
The University of Cambridge is the second oldest university in the English-speaking world and the fourth oldest university in the world. It was formerly an association of scholars established in 1209. It has eight museums of literature and science, a library system with more than 15 million books, and the world's oldest publishing house, Cambridge University Press.
In the 2024QS World University Rankings, the University of Cambridge ranked second.
In the 2025QS World University Rankings, the University of Cambridge ranked fifth, defeated by Imperial College London and Oxford University, both in the UK.
