Introduction and Overview
Varna Medical University is a non-profit public higher education institution in Bulgaria, located in Varna, with branches in Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven and Shumen. It offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in a variety of fields including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and public health.
History and Establishment
The school was established as a higher medical college in 1960 by Decree No. 414 of the Presidium of the National Assembly of Bulgaria and Order No. 208 of January 19, 1961 of the Ministry of Health, with October 1, 1961 as its founding day. In 1995, it was renamed Varna Medical University, and in 2002 it was named after Professor Paras Kef Stoyanov, a famous figure in the history of Bulgarian medicine.
Strength of School
Faculty: It has a team of highly qualified teachers, most of whom are outstanding experts in the field of medicine, actively participate in and present their achievements in international scientific activities, and serve as guest lecturers at many foreign universities.
Scientific research achievements: It has achieved fruitful results in medical research and established several scientific research centers, such as the Nutrigenomics Laboratory established in 2007, which has the latest equipment for molecular and biological research and has carried out many studies in the forefront of medicine.
International cooperation: It is one of the first members of the Black Sea University Network (BSUN) and a full member of the European University Association (EUA). It actively participates in international projects such as Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci, and Grundvig, and cooperates with universities and institutions in many countries.

Its medical major is in a leading position in Bulgaria, and the dentistry major is one of the youngest and most modern majors in the Balkans. Faculty
Department of Medicine: It is the core department of the school. It has 15 departments and offers a master's degree in medicine, as well as doctoral and postgraduate education, covering multiple disciplines such as internal medicine, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Department of Public Health: Founded in 2001, it has 8 departments and offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in healthcare management, public health and other fields, as well as doctoral and postgraduate education.
Department of Dentistry: Founded in 2006, it is the youngest and most modern dental department in the Balkans and offers a master's degree in dentistry.
Department of Pharmacy: Founded in 2008, it offers a master's degree in pharmacy.

In the 2024 World University Rankings, Varna Medical University ranks around 5100 in the world and around 13th in Bulgaria.
Fees
Tuition fees vary depending on the course and the student's nationality. Generally, international students pay around 3,000-6,000 euros per year for undergraduate studies, and slightly higher for master's and doctoral studies. The school offers certain scholarships and grants.
